Free Buffet and Beach BBQ!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The time for the celebration is upon us.
With the ending of the term comes the ending of the Shocksoc calendar. As such, it is our duty as your committee to use the money we have left for the year, and treat you to a massive barbeque on the beach!
So come on down to Tynemouth Beach, if you do we'll be feeding you large amounts of grilled food, providing you with large quantaties of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. And spending the day enjoying whatever weather the world wants to throw at us, because we'll be free for another 4 months or so.
We'll be meeting at 12pm in M4.13 in Merz Court, where we'll be having a free buffet with the staff, before heading on over to the beach.
So for a great day out of laughs, sports, games, sun and food, head to the beach with Shocksoc!

2009
Shocksoccers, it's that time of year again.
Seemingly the highlight of our calendars is the much anticipated trip
to Krakow, Poland. Interest seems high again this year so it looks like
we're going to have yet another brilliant trip.
However it's time to organise the thing, and to do that we need to know some rough numbers, but before
you go deleting this email as a lost cause we're going to try and convince you.
Our little trip around Europe is more than just a football trip, in fact it needs to be said that the football is
just something giving us an excuse to go and is by no means a requirement, meaning that anyone that wants
to can join us.
So down to the details, remember these are rough and depend upon our numbers. The dates are 23rd April
to 29th April and promises to be some of the best 6 days of the year.
Past trips to Poland have included some brilliant days out, last year we saw the sights of the city, we went
for a walk around the area we were staying and found a castle, since we had split up for the day we rang
the other groups and decided to go for a tour of the castle, find out it's history and such, while we waited
for the other groups we had a game of football, shirts vs skins (it was by far a hot enough day), as more of
our members turned up the game got bigger and bigger. To prove how friendly the people of Poland are,
we began to gather a crowd, random people from the city began to stop and cheer on our little mock game,
laughing at our pathetic attempts to play football and helping to stop the ball from falling into the river we
were next to.
After the game some of us did visit the castle and had a tour, the rest just relaxed in the courtyard with a nice cold drink. Other trips included a moving visit to the famous Auschwitz and a day paintballing in the polish countryside.
One of the days is entirely dedicated to the football tournament; a day of football, beer, footlong sausages as thick as your arm (seriously) and a crowd willing to invade the pitch with only a gentle amount of nudging. There is also a huge shopping centre nearby that is well worth a visit. So many more shops than newcastle (and cheaper too).
Thinking it'd be a great time, but you really can't afford a holiday? Here's a breakdown of the prices from last year.
Event Non-footballers Footballers
Plane Tickets (Return) £50-£90 £50-£90
Entry to Football
and the airport transfers £15 £25
Football Kits £25(not required) £25
Hostel £60-£70 £60-£70
We can't stress enough how welcome everyone is to tag along with us, we're thinking of booking 2 teams (16 players) for the football, but we'll be happy to accept as many people as want to come with us, cheer us along, go for some great nights out, or just ignore us and do your own thing, everybody is welcome!
All I need now is an email back from you (krakow@shocksoc.com), telling me that you want to come, if you want to play football, and if so what position you can play in. That's it.
Merry Christmas everyone, and have fun revising for your exams over the holidays.

New School Social Space
For those who don't know the Faculty has recently invested in a new social / study space available to all undergraduate students. It's a good place to quietly work alone or in group revision sessions. It includes wifi access and plenty of desk space with plugs for laptops. Also there are sofas and small tables for relaxing.
Perhaps the coolest feature though, and definitly the most ridiculous is the electronic changeable height tables as demonstrated below:
